Visa is a global digital payments network connecting consumers, merchants, financial institutions, businesses and government entities in more than 200 countries and territories. Its history dates to 1958, when Bank of America launched BankAmericard, which became Visa in 1976; Visa Inc. was formed in 2007 and the company went public in 2008. Its corporate fact sheet lists around 14.5 thousand financial institutions and more than 175 million merchant locations. The network supports P2P, B2C, B2B and G2C payments, and Visa also offers clients services covering fraud management and security, data products, and consulting and analytics.
