About
The American Fintech Council (AFC) is a standards-based trade association representing fintech companies and innovative banks. It states that it represents more than 150 member companies and partners, and membership is open only to US operating companies that meet its criteria, which for lenders include not offering payday or high-cost instalment loans and maintaining compliance management systems suited to their size and complexity. AFC also sets product-specific standards, for example for buy now pay later providers, covering disclosures, underwriting, late fees and complaint handling. Its work combines policy advocacy, member networking and education for policymakers and regulators, and it runs the AFC Policy Summit, held in 2025 and 2026. The council is led by CEO Phil Goldfeder.
