About
Wero is a digital wallet and account-to-account payment solution from the European Payments Initiative (EPI), provided by EPI Company SE in Brussels. Based on instant payments, it lets bank customers send and receive money with a phone number and pay online directly from their bank account, without a card or an IBAN. It launched in mid-2024 with banks in Belgium, France and Germany, is now also available in Luxembourg, and plans to add the Netherlands in 2026, along with in-store and subscription payments. EPI is supported by 14 European banks and two payment acquirers. The National Bank of Belgium authorised EPI Company SE as a payment institution on 20 February 2024.
