About
The Clearing House is a banking association and payments company owned by large commercial banks, with a history dating back to 1853. Its operating arm, The Clearing House Payments Company L.L.C., owns and operates core US payments infrastructure, including ACH and wire systems that it says clear and settle nearly $2 trillion in US dollar payments each day. In November 2017 it launched the RTP network, a real-time payment system for US banks, and it also offers services such as the TCH Token Service. Supporting services include The Clearing House Payments Authority, a payments association with more than 1,000 financial institution members and corporate subscribers, and ECCHO, which maintains rules for private-sector check image exchange. The Clearing House also conducts research, engages policymakers on banking and payments regulation and holds an annual conference.
