About
Payments NZ is the governance organisation for New Zealand's core payment systems. It was formed in 2010 by the industry with support from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, and the systems it manages transact more than $8 trillion a year. It governs three payment clearing systems, the Bulk Electronic, Consumer Electronic and High Value Clearing Systems, and runs the API Centre, established in May 2019 as an industry standards implementation body for open banking in New Zealand. Its shareholders are ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Citibank, HSBC, Kiwibank, TSB Bank and Westpac, and its board has 11 directors including an independent chair. Payments NZ also offers a three-level membership programme, runs a Payments Direction workstream on the future of payments and holds The Point payments conference.
