About
The Payments Council of India (PCI) is an industry body for India's digital payments sector, formed in 2013 under the aegis of the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) to represent non-bank payment companies. It was set up to address industry-level issues and barriers that need collective discussion and action, and it works with regulators and government bodies including the Reserve Bank of India and the Finance Ministry. The council states that it has more than 140 members, which it says account for over 90% of the industry. Its work is organised through sub-committees covering prepaid payment issuers, merchant aggregators and acquirers, payments banks, international remittance, Bharat Bill Payment operating units, payment networks, UPI and payment technology enablers. Public policy and regulatory affairs are its primary focus, alongside reports, white papers and roundtables for the payments industry.
