mx51 is a Sydney-based payments technology company that provides white-label merchant payment solutions to banks, merchant acquirers and payment facilitators. It began in 2016 as Project 51, a corporate innovation project within Westpac Banking Group, and was spun out of Assembly Payments (now Zai) in 2020. Its products include point-of-sale integration linking POS systems with payment terminals, merchant dashboards, and value-added services such as chargeback and dispute case management. Mastercard led its Series A round in 2021, and in 2024 it announced a collaboration with Commonwealth Bank to launch Smart Sync and Smart Dash. The name mx51 is short for merchant experience.
