BPAY is Australia's bill-payment scheme, which lets customers pay bills from their online banking using a Biller Code and Customer Reference Number. It has operated since 1997 and is one of the payment schemes run by Australian Payments Plus (AP+), alongside eftpos and the New Payments Platform. According to its site, BPAY is available in the online banking of more than 140 banks and financial institutions and is offered by more than 95,000 businesses. Payers can choose the account to pay from and schedule payments for a later date, and bill types range from utilities, strata and rent to credit cards and insurance. The BPAY Scheme is managed by BPAY Pty Ltd, and BPAY Payments are issued by the scheme's member institutions.
