About

Proparco is the French development finance institution for the private sector and a subsidiary of the Agence française de développement (AFD) Group. Founded in 1977, it works in more than 115 countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eurasia and the Middle East, offering loans, equity, guarantees and technical assistance. For financial institutions it provides medium- and long-term loans, equity, guarantees, trade finance and technical support. For African start-ups it invests directly from pre-Series A to Series D starting at €1 million, provides pre-seed and seed investment through its subsidiary Digital Africa, and lists fintech among its preferred sectors. Proparco reports having invested in more than 200 African tech start-ups since 2018, 30 of them directly.
