About
The Future Fund is Australia's sovereign wealth fund, established in 2006 to strengthen the Commonwealth's long-term financial position. It was set up with contributions of $60.5 billion from budget surpluses and the sale and transfer of the Government's Telstra shares, and was valued at $289.7 billion at 30 June 2026. Its investment mandate targets an average annual return of at least CPI plus 4.0% to 5.0% over the long term. The Board of Guardians, supported by the Future Fund Management Agency, also invests six other public funds, including the Medical Research Future Fund, the Future Drought Fund and the Housing Australia Future Fund. It invests globally across public and private markets through external investment managers, and has offices in Melbourne and Sydney.
