About
BBVA Spark is the business unit of banking group BBVA that provides banking and financing to high-growth technology companies. BBVA presented the unit in 2022, combining structured financing such as venture debt and growth loans with transactional products including accounts, collections, payments and payroll. It focuses on venture-backed companies from Series A to later stages across Europe and Latin America, and BBVA reported in March 2026 that the unit had committed close to €1 billion in financing since launch. Transactions named by BBVA include up to €50 million for Valencia-based HR software company Sesame HR, financing for German company Lanes & Planes and a £15 million facility for UK personal finance app Plum. The unit also houses BBVA's venture capital fund investments, which have included Propel, Sinovation Ventures, Leadwind, Lowercarbon and Fifth Wall, as well as its Open Innovation activities.
