About

Africa50 is a pan-African infrastructure investor and asset manager based in Casablanca, established by the African Development Bank in response to a call by African heads of state in the 2012 Declaration on the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa. Its investor base includes 33 African countries, two African central banks, the African Development Bank and the Public Investment Corporation. It invests through three vehicles: Africa50 Project Development, which provides early-stage equity and project preparation, Africa50 Project Finance, which provides equity and quasi-equity near or after financial close, and the Africa50 Infrastructure Acceleration Fund, aimed at private and institutional investors. Its priority sectors are power, transport, ICT, midstream gas, healthcare, fintech and education, and it generally looks at projects valued at over $100 million, taking strategic minority stakes. Projects featured on its site include Kigali Innovation City in Rwanda and the Benban solar plants in Egypt.
