About
Accion is a global non-profit that works with local partners to develop and scale responsible digital financial solutions for underserved people. Founded in 1961 by Joe Blatchford, it began issuing small loans to microentrepreneurs in Recife, Brazil in the 1970s and co-founded BancoSol in Bolivia in 1992. Its investment strategies include Accion Ventures, Accion Emerge and Accion Impact Management, while Accion Advisory works with partners to design, test and deploy new digital financial products and services. Accion states that it has helped build 299 financial service providers operating across 77 countries. It also houses the Center for Financial Inclusion, an independent think tank, and is a US 501(c)(3) organisation.
