Wayra is Telefónica's corporate venture capital arm, which invests in startups and connects them with Telefónica's business units. Launched in 2011 as a startup accelerator, it became Telefónica's Corporate Venture Capital in 2018, bringing together the group's investment and open innovation activity. It operates mainly in Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom and Brazil, and also works across other markets in Europe and Latin America. Its venture-client model links portfolio companies with Telefónica business units for commercial collaboration, and it also designs open innovation and corporate venture programmes for Telefónica and other corporations. The team is led by CEO Andrés Saborido.
