About
Cockroach Labs is the company behind CockroachDB, a distributed SQL database, and Cockroach Continuum, a product built on CockroachDB for running and operating many databases as one system. It was founded in 2015 by former Google engineers Spencer Kimball, Peter Mattis and Ben Darnell, a year after Kimball published the first CockroachDB design on GitHub. CockroachDB is designed to keep every transaction correct even if a machine, data centre or region fails, and it is used in sectors such as payments, banking, identity and health. The company is headquartered in New York, with offices in Austin, Bangalore, London, Toronto and San Mateo. Its investors include Benchmark, Sequoia, GV, Index Ventures and FirstMark.
