Bancontact is Belgium's domestic electronic payment scheme, operated by Bancontact Company. Its history goes back to the launch of the Bancontact network in 1979, and the company reports more than 2.5 billion transactions a year. In 2026 it brought all of its activities under a single Bancontact brand: Bancontact Pay for mobile QR payments in-store, online and between friends, Bancontact Card, Bancontact One Click and the Bancontact Pro suite for professionals. Through Bancontact Pro, businesses can accept both Bancontact and Wero payments, and partners can integrate its payment technology, with a developer portal available on the site. Bancontact Company is a payment institution supervised by the National Bank of Belgium.
