About
The American Financial Services Association (AFSA) is a trade association for the consumer credit industry, founded in 1916 and headquartered in Washington, DC. Its members provide traditional installment loans, direct and indirect vehicle financing, mortgages, payment cards and credit for non-vehicle retail customers, and AFSA states that its members do not provide payday or vehicle title loans. The association provides policy advice and advocacy at federal and state level, including comment letters, white papers, issue briefs, a state legislation tracker (AFSA*Track) and a political action committee (AFSAPAC). It runs industry events such as the Vehicle Finance Conference & Expo and the Independents Conference & Expo, along with compliance and operations training and webinars, and offers membership to financial institutions and business partners. Its site also lists the AFSA Education Foundation and MoneySKILL among its resources for consumers.
