Variant is a New York venture capital firm that invests in technology it describes as expanding human autonomy, across new markets, infrastructure and applications that increase user agency. It was founded in 2020 with a thesis centred on digital ownership of identity, money, data and products, which it has since broadened to autonomy. The firm concentrates at seed and selectively participates through Series A and growth rounds, including liquid venture investments. In June 2026 it announced Variant 4, a $222M fund that leads at the earliest stage and participates in liquid and growth investments as projects mature.
