Real Ventures is an early-stage venture capital firm that backs Canadian technology founders from pre-seed onwards. Managing partner John Stokes co-founded the firm in 2007, when it launched as a geographically focused seed investor. Its Orbit investment strategy launched in 2017, initially in Quebec, and through OrbitMTL it provides capital and support to Quebec-based early-stage companies, backed by partners including CDPQ, the Fonds de solidarité FTQ, Desjardins Capital de risque and Investissement Québec. The firm created the FounderFuel accelerator in 2011 and runs Rep Matters, a programme supporting Black founders. Portfolio companies featured on its site include Transit, Xanadu, BenchSci, Zeffy and dcbel.
