About
The Mastercard Foundation is an independent foundation that works with partner organisations to help young people in Africa and Indigenous youth in Canada access dignified and fulfilling work. It was established in 2006 through Mastercard when the company became public, and its policies, operations and programme decisions are determined by its Board of Directors and leadership team. Since 2006 it has committed $13.7 billion to education and financial inclusion in 74 countries, primarily in Africa, and it aims to enable 30 million young people across Africa to access dignified and fulfilling work by 2030. Its initiatives include the Mastercard Foundation Africa Growth Fund, launched in partnership with Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA) with a focus on women-led small and medium-sized enterprises, alongside the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program and EleV. The Foundation has offices in Toronto, Addis Ababa, Accra, Nairobi, Lagos, Kigali, Dakar and Kampala, and the Mastercard Foundation Asset Management (MFAM) Corporation builds a diversified investment portfolio on its behalf.
