8VC is a technology investment firm based in Austin, Texas, that builds and invests in companies, including in financial services. Its published thesis covers infrastructure IT, biology, healthcare, government and defence, and logistics. Financial services companies in its portfolio include Addepar, a software and data platform for wealth, investment and asset management firms, and Ramp, which combines corporate cards with expense management, bill payments and accounting automation. Through its 8VC Build programme the firm launches its own companies, and it also runs fellowship programmes, among them an Engineering Fellowship and a Bio-IT Fellowship. The firm says it draws inspiration from the story of the 'Traitorous Eight', who left William Shockley's group in 1957 to form Fairchild Semiconductor.
